Volunteer & Internship Opportunities

We encourage all volunteers to attend a Journey to Healing Tour to see if SURVIVORS is for you. Please download the Volunteer Application and submit it to us if you're interested!

Journey to Healing Tour Ambassador:

Survivors of Torture, International hosts twice-monthly introductions to the organization. SURVIVORS is looking for passionate people to help invite guests to our tours. An ambassador has a goal of inviting 10-12 people each year. It is helpful for the ambassador to attend a Journey to Healing Tour first, but they do not need to attend with their guests.

Time commitment: Approximately 1 hour each month for one year.

Volunteer Coordinator:

Survivors of Torture, International receives many wonderful offers from the community to volunteer with our organization. We are looking for a volunteer who can coordinate volunteers, help them through the orientation process, and help keep them informed of upcoming projects and activities.

Time Commitment: 4 hours a week. At least 3-6 month commitment.

Befriender Program Coordinator:

Survivors of Torture, International has a program to connect members of the community with our clients with the goal of creating friendships that are beneficial to both people. This volunteer will coordinate the program to help "befrienders" fill out the proper paperwork, work with the clinical staff to match befrienders with the appropriate client, and check in with the befrienders from time to time. In addition, the coordinator may plan activities with the all befriender groups.

Time Commitment: 4 hours a week. At least 3-6 month commitment.

Newsletter Logistics Coordinator:

Survivors of Torture, International produces a quarterly newsletter. A volunteer or intern is needed to help with the logistics of sending out the newsletter through the bulk mail process. This person would set up and participate in newsletter folding parties with organizations and businesses to help with the bulk mail process and introduce SURVIVORS to new people. This would also include verifying and ordering supplies and the final drop off of the newsletter.

Time commitment: 1-2 hours a week for setup of folding parties. Larger time commitment (5-10 hours)the weeks of the bulk mail (3-4 times a year). At least a 2 month commitment.

E-Newsletter Reporter/Videographer:

Survivors of Torture, International produces a monthly e-newsletter. This volunteer would need to be web-savvy. This person is needed to work with staff on ideas for stories, investigate and interview people for the e-newsletter and edit a short video. A person with video experience would be a great help.

Time commitment: 5-10 hours per edition. At least a 3 month commitment.

Marketing Materials Volunteer:

Survivors of Torture, International produces some informational materials in-house. This volunteer would ensure that Survivors of Torture, International always has these materials on hand. Preparations include collating materials, making copies, printing materials, cutting and folding.

Time commitment: 2-4 hours a month. Can be one-time only.

Journey to Healing Tour Host:

Survivors of Torture, International hosts twice-monthly introductions to the organization. SURVIVORS is looking for volunteers to greet visitors.

Time commitment: 1-2 hours a month (for morning tours, volunteer greeter arrives at 7:30am; for evening tours, volunteer greeter arrives at 5:00pm); Commitment of 3 months, not necessarily consecutively.
