SURVIVORS’ 12th Annual Helping Survivors Heal Event!

The 12th Annual Helping Survivors Heal Fundraising Event took place on September 15, 2022 and was available online at two times that day. Survivors of Torture, International celebrated its 25th Anniversary at this event by featuring the always moving stories of its clients, along with a retrospective of its 25 years of Healing, Education and Advocacy. We are also excited to have an inspiring matching opportunity at the event – between now and September 15, an anonymous donor will match all donations and multi-year pledges up to $100,000 dollar for dollar with a newly establishd “Mel and Jane Kieschnick Fund for SURVIVORS”.

Also at the event, our retiring founding Executive Director Kathi Anderson handed off the baton to a new visionary leader, Etleva Bejko, as the organization welcomes in the beginning of an exciting new chapter in the legacy of SURVIVORS. Thank you for joining our community to learn, support and sustain SURVIVORS at this milestone event.

Mel & Jane Kieschnick at a recent Ice Cream Social holding signs of advocacy for survivors. Mel was instrumental in securing early funding for SURVIVORS through Wheatridge Ministries of Illinois (now called the We Raise Foundation). Mel later served on the Board of SURVIVORS. He and Jane have been annual tables hosts at the Helping Survivors Heal fundraising events and we are excited to honor both Mel & Jane this year for their years of passionate support.

25th Anniversary Campaign: “25 for 25”!

SURVIVORS has also established a special campaign this year to add new, renewing or extended pledges to our premier giving program, Healing Society. We hope to get 25 people to join us to celebrate our 25 years and so far we are up to 23! To find out how to join us please contact us at 619-278-2421 or email Scott at swilliford@notorture.org. Pro-Bono volunteer physicians perform medical evaluations for clients' asylum cases. Physicians write medical affidavits for attorneys to present in court, documenting that there is physical evidence of torture. Medical evaluations are always done in person, either at SURVIVORS' office or a secondary location. Interpreters are provided for this service. Applicant's medical licenses must be up to date.

Contractors accept clients for individual, couples or family therapy on a case-by-case basis. You choose your availability and create your own schedule. Therapy sessions may occur in your office setting in the community, Survivors’ office space, in-home, or via telemedicine. SURVIVORS provides compensation for your work.
