Mental Health Initiative Project (MHIP)
The Mental Health Initiative Project (MHIP) provides free, specialized mental health care to Afghans and other individuals newly arriving to San Diego, California. Services include:

One-time workshop focused on mental health and emotional wellness, navigation of health systems, access to services and resources

Twice monthly clubs to discuss how the mind and body are connected; individual, family, and community wellbeing; and how to stay healthy while maintaining cultural traditions

Individual, family, and group therapy and psychiatric services including medication
Eligibility Requirements
Afghan Individuals
Citizens or nationals of Afghanistan (5 years or older) who arrived in the U.S. between July 31, 2021 and March 31, 2023 are eligible for services.
Children ages 5 – 17 are ONLY eligible for direct mental health services.
Non-Afghan Individuals
Adult (18 years or older) refugees, asylees, SIV holders, and other immigrant groups who arrived in the U.S. between July 31, 2021 and March 31, 2023 are eligible for services.
