HEALING LEGACY CIRCLE

Join our forward-thinking circle of supporters by remembering us in your estate planning and impacting the healing services to so many future survivors of torture.

Joining the Healing Legacy Circle ensures that you can create your own legacy to support the growing community of SURVIVORS long into the future. Healing Legacy Circle members help perpetuate the SURVIVORS vision to ensure all torture survivors in the San Diego region will have access to specialized care they need to heal and thrive.

There are many ways to leave a planned gift. We know this is a personal decision and we advise you to consult your tax and legal advisors for the best way to support SURVIVORS through your estate plans. Here are a few tips:

  1. It can be done simply. You may not need to make a formal change to your will or trust. Adding SURVIVORS as a beneficiary to an IRA or Investment account may be as easy as going online to add SURVIVORS, our address (P.O. Box 371104, San Diego, CA 92137) and our Tax ID# 33-0743869 as a partial beneficiary.
  2. If you already have a will. You may be able to get a qualified professional to add an amendment (called a codicil) to your will or trust without having to rewrite the entire document.
  3. If you are creating or revising your will or trust. Consult us at SURVIVORS for sample wording, or consult your legal or tax advisor for more options.

To find out more about how you can join the Healing Legacy Circle, just send us your information using the form below and our Development team will contact you. Alternatively, you may contact our Development department at 619-278-2400 and ask for Scott or Janie.

WHY WE JOINED:

“After our financial advisor asked “how much time in a week do you spend with your children and grandchildren, and how much time with the non-profits you support?”, we had to admit that our passion for the non-profits we love and support, particularly SURVIVORS, often got equal or more time. Having been one of the founders of SURVIVORS, he suggested “you might want to think of SURVIVORS as another child” in the planning of the eventual distribution of your assets.

He also reminded us that this could be a witness to our children; certainly they were important to us, but also the causes we supported were an essential part of who we are. Our will and trust now includes this “expanded family”. Including SURVIVORS in an estate plan also provides tax advantages that allow us to determine how our estate is distributed, rather than the courts deciding or the government taking a portion.”
